FAIM Africa ltd.

  • FAIM Africa ltd. incorporated in 2008 in Kigali, Rwanda to meet the needs for clean virus free plants by establishing a plant propagation and tissue culture lab facility with the capacity to propagate 20 million plants per annum by 2015. We plan to begin production of virus free plants in Rwanda by 2012. In the meantime we will be contracting some of our plant services to other labs throughout the world, initially in Sri Lanka.   • Rwanda has conducive climate, good soil and altitude for passion fruit growing. The passion fruit is a shallow rooted, woody, perennial and climbs other plants to search for light by means of tendrils. Passion fruit was introduced in Rwanda for commercial juice processing. Rwanda produces passion fruit both for the local and export markets. The country exports fresh purple passion fruits to the European market.
  • Papaya plants are grown in Rwanda by households on a small scale mainly for own consumption as fruits. The surplus fruits are sold to earn some cash. 
  • There are different varieties of mangoes grown suitable to eat either as fresh fruit or for processing into juice and other products. Production has been increasing over year with increasing demand on local and export markets. The production of mangoes in Rwanda is estimated at 9,200 tons per year.
